12-week course on the power of cooperative businesses
offered in partnership with Xavier Leadership Center
At a time when our world confronts climate crisis, rising inequality, and withering institutions, we have to rethink the way we do business, including how we organize companies.

The course meets virtually for 1.5 hours a week for 12 weeks. The cost is $750.

In this certificate program, we explore the power of cooperative structures to align incentives and make our businesses profoundly accountable to workers, environments, and communities. We also discuss mindsets, techniques, and processes to unleash the collective wisdom of employees and enable companies to be high-performing, resilient workplaces that negotiate uncertainty and complexity in an ever-changing world.
Participants acquire a detailed understanding of how to structure and run businesses that implement cooperative and democratic organizational models, from worker cooperatives to companies with Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).

Basics of cooperative businesses models
Intro to democratic workplaces
Case studies of cooperative businesses
Organizational development
Participatory and cooperative management practices
Open book management and the Great Game of Business
Business and financial models
Team development
Readings and other resources will be provided. Classes may include guest speakers.

Meetings are virtual, with a possible in-person component (safety permitting). Participants may be located in Greater Cincinnati or elsewhere.
Who should apply?
Individuals who
have experience working in management and/or one of the following types of companies: a co-op business, a business with an ESOP, or a business that uses a democratic organizational model
want to learn how to manage a cooperative business or strengthen their business management skills
want to lead a transition an existing company to an employee-owned model
The ideal candidate has some experience in business or cooperatives and is high-energy and motivated.
